In late April 1945, Lee Miller entered the bombed-out city of Munich alongside the United States Army's 179th Regiment of the 45th Division. The Hauptstadt der Bewegung, or "capital of the National Socialist movement," held much symbolic significance. It was thus not merely for logistical purposes that the regiment established its headquarters in Adolf Hitler's spacious apartment, wich, astonishingly, had no damage from the bombing of the city by Allied forces...
