Robert Kluijver was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1968. He obtained a master’s degree in International Relations at the University of Amsterdam in 1995, and another at Sciences Po Paris in 1999. He has worked in conflict zones from 1997 (Tajikistan) to 2018 (Somalia), roughly three years in Central Asia, seven in Afghanistan, seven in the Middle East and five in the Horn of Africa. He specializes in understanding social transformation through conflict, with a double focus on international politics and local cultural/artistic development in the areas he has worked. From 2010 to 2016 he lectured two courses at the Paris School of International Affairs. Since 2016 he is a doctoral student affiliated to the CERI with as dissertation subject the international state-building project in Somalia. He is Dutch and now lives in Brussels with his family. His side interests include astrology & cosmology, ancient history and cultural heritage and foreign cultures, language and literature. He dabbles in creative arts and generally is a DIY person.
